The Yellowtail Damselfish is a beautiful and hardy marine fish, known for its bright blue body and striking yellow tail. It is an active fish and a popular choice for both beginner and experienced saltwater aquarists.

Family: Pomacentridae (Damselfish and Clownfish family)

Scientific Name: Chrysiptera parasema

Behavior:

Active, hardy, and generally less aggressive than many other damselfish. However, it can become territorial, especially around its preferred hiding place. Providing plenty of live rock, caves, and hiding spaces can help reduce aggression.

Diet:

Omnivore. It accepts a variety of foods, including high-quality marine pellets, flakes, mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and algae-based foods such as spirulina.

Size:

Up to approximately 3 inches (7–8 cm).

Reef Safe:

Yes. The Yellowtail Damselfish is reef safe and generally does not harm corals or other reef invertebrates.

Best Aquarium:

A 20-gallon (75-liter) or larger marine aquarium is suitable for a single Yellowtail Damselfish. A larger aquarium with plenty of live rock and hiding places is recommended, especially if keeping more than one. It is an excellent choice for a peaceful community or reef aquarium, although tankmates should be selected carefully because it can become territorial.
