Family: Serranidae (Grouper and Anthias family)

Behavior:

Peaceful, active, and social. Anthias naturally live in groups and may form a hierarchy with one dominant male and several females. Males can be territorial toward each other, so plenty of space and suitable group arrangements are important.

Diet:

Primarily feeds on plankton and other small marine foods. In captivity, offer mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, finely chopped frozen seafood, and high-quality marine pellets. Small feedings several times a day are recommended to maintain good health and energy.

Size:

Depending on the species sold as Japanese Anthias, adult size is generally around 3–4 inches (7.5–10 cm). Some Japanese anthias species may grow slightly larger.

Reef Safe:

Yes, reef safe. Japanese Anthias are generally peaceful toward corals and reef invertebrates and are excellent additions to a well-established reef aquarium.

Best Aquarium:

A mature reef aquarium of at least 70 gallons (265 liters) is recommended, with a larger aquarium preferred for groups. Provide plenty of open swimming space, live rock, caves, and good water movement. A tight-fitting lid is recommended because anthias can be active jumpers.

Care Level:
