Blue Tang

Behavior:

Generally peaceful but active and sometimes territorial, especially toward other surgeonfish. It spends much of its time swimming in open areas and grazing on algae around live rock. It is best kept with peaceful tank mates and should have plenty of swimming space.

Primarily herbivorous, with some meaty foods also accepted. Feed a varied diet including marine algae, seaweed sheets, spirulina-based foods, algae pellets, and quality marine foods. Regular access to algae helps support healthy growth and overall condition.

Size:

Can grow to approximately 10–12 inches (25–30 cm) in length, although aquarium specimens are often smaller.

Reef Safe:

Yes, reef safe. Blue Tangs are generally safe with corals and most reef invertebrates. They may help control algae growth in the aquarium.

Best Aquarium:

A large marine or reef aquarium of at least 100 gallons (380 liters) is recommended, with 125 gallons or larger preferred for an adult. Provide plenty of open swimming space, live rock for grazing and shelter, strong filtration, and stable water conditions. A mature reef aquarium is an excellent environment.
